I some times used her soft baby washclothes dampened when she just has pee because wipes seem to irritate her skin but when there’s a bowel movement then wipes are necessary…it gets way too messy using wash cloths for that.
You can definitely use flannels [USA: washcloths...] — I use nothing but. Plain water is much nicer on the skin than the rather dehydrating stuff in commercial wipes, and they’re much better at cleaning, too.
edited: Beware advice on this topic from people who have never tried both. “have to run the cloth under the water 10 times”? One grabs as many flannels as are required; you don’t need to keep rinsing it out…
In re. another answer: if your washing machine can’t get poo out, it’s not getting much else out either, and you need a repairman.
But when you’re in the middle of cleaning up an explosive poo and have to run the cloth under the water 10 times, you’ll wish you just had wipes handy.
… Or if you’re not at home and not close to a sink. Plus, would you really want to carry around that stinky rag in your diaper bag for a whole day? lol
hell yeah and not just for your baby for you too!! or just some wet wipes geez… its gross how many ppl wipe their ass only with dry paper… bleh its like a disease…
Think about it… lets say shit came out of your arm for a second right? (of course this is silly but hear my point) and once your done you gotta clean right? well if you wipe that with dry toilet paper… then it’ll just smear all over your skin… it’ll just smear shit all over the place… and even if you wipe till nothing shows you still have that grotesque particles and odors on your tiny hairs or for men hairs and it would all be just deep in your skin pores that no dry toilet paper will ever reach.. cuz eventually shit becomes dry too!!
you’re gonna get real tired of doing that and washing them constantly.
Use wipes. They make sensitive ones so they’re not harsh on your baby’s skin. Way worth the money in my opinion… especially with as many of them as we go through around here.
At home a flannel is fine, though explosive poopy nappies you may wish you had wipes.
When you’re out and about, you may find it a lot easier to clean up and get moving. Washing out flannels for 10mins in the middle of a babychange everytime you baby goes #2 will hinder you dramatically.
Alteast invest in a few travel packs, just incase. xx
Sure go ahead and use the flannels, spread the fecal matter around the home. Babies poop several times a day, and it requires multiple clean wipes to clean up a poopy butt. Personally I’d rather use a disposable wipe and trash the poop than rinse, wash and be concerned with poop in the laundry.
i used wipes with my daughter but some babies have very sensitive skin….in that case some ppl use those baby wash clothes with water and a little bit of baby soap….
YES. Get the thick ones, like Huggies, that you won’t stick your fingernails through. I don’t even have long fingernails, but I’ve made big holes in wimpy wipes. Get the sensitive skin kind if you’re worried about that.
I usually use washcloths and water. I bought a pack of cheapies at Target–not so cheap that they’re poor quality and rough though. Little squares of flannel might work well too…it might be a little softer on baby’s skin. I soak them in a bit of vinegar water before I wash them to keep any odor from sticking around–and to keep them from smelling musty. I’ve been doing this since my son was about 3 months old, and I haven’t gotten sick of it. It’s not too time-consuming or anything. My son is 17 months. I keep a small pack of baby wipes in my purse for use in public. This is just a personal thing though. I used to take washcloths with me and a Ziploc, but I was really bad about taking them out of my purse when I got home…whoops.
If its a really messy diaper, you can always wash the babys bottom off in the bathroom sink or bathtub. Then just dry off with a plain washcloth. Plain water is much better and less irritating than baby wipes. And baby wipes are just an added expense new parents can do without.
wipes, personal opinion though. use what your comfortable with.

You can use damp cloths just the same.

I’d at least invest in a few packs of wipes.
