Baby product weight limits: can we use them beyond the limit? How far?

My son is 5 months old and about 24 lbs. No he isnt fat, he is actually quite slim and muscular. He is just off the charts for his growth percentile. Anyway, I want to get him a jumperoo. Today I was trying him in them in Babies R Us and he was SO happy, grinning at me. He loved it, bouncing around. Anyway, the official weight limit is 25lbs but can it really be used for an extra 5 pounds or 10 lbs?
How strict are the weight limits?

Well, honestly I’m not sure, but my 8 month old still uses her jumparoo from time to time. She is crawling now so she isn’t in it much, but when she sees it she grabs for it and just loves it. So far it has held up nicely…then again I think she weighs around 20 lbs (not sure on her exact weight though, at her 6 month check up she weighed 18 lbs so I’m just guessing). Anyway, overall though I might say to skip buying it because before you know it, he’ll be crawling and probably won’t be interested in the jumparoo anymore. :)

I always went 5lbs over, then donated it. We never had a problem with anything with our first 2 kids. Youngest is still to lil to have had that arrise.

My rule is 5lbs over, then get rid of it.

Funny you post this. I also have an off the charts big boy. I put my son in his Jumperoo everyday, and I wasn’t even aware of the weight limit. (It was given to me second hand) I expect that if he goes past the weight limit a bit, but still enjoys it, I’ll keep putting him in. It seems rather sturdy, and I’m sure the weight restrictions are mostly for legal purposes.

my daughter is 5 months and 22 lbs. shes a long baby 27 in and a lil chubby, my personal opinion is that if your child is injured there is nothing you can do even if its because of crappy products, because they told you the weight limit. i wouldnt risk it. just find something else fun for the baby. my girl loves the exersaucer
