@Posie28 toss the nipple shield now! They are almost always a breastfeeding pitfall because 99% of the time, they’re not necessary. They will definitely reduce milk production because your baby is not directly stimulating the nipple to trigger prolactin (what makes the milk.) Please speak with a lactation consultant or counselor before continuing to use them. Usually fixing a latch is what is necessary, not adding extra gadgets to the breast. Babies can still latch to flat nipples.
My son is 1 wk old and im using a nipple shield..but keep hearing that it will eventually decrease my milk..has this happend to anyone?? Do u use it thru the whole feeding?? Someone please let me know! Thank..=)
@risrara I agree, the nipple shields got us through the early rough patches and now here we are at almost 8 months going strong! he nurses like a pro now, you’d never know we had such a rough start. congrats on making it to 6 months!
Great video! Thanks for the info. With my last two sons, I tried the breast shield, but like you, found it in other places later on. Ack! I ended up using the nipple shields, which were a blessing! I would not have made it to 6 months of breastfeeding if it weren’t for them!
@borchersable good tip about the lansinoh lanolin, thats true it does go on thick…when it’s warmer it goes on nice and smooth but its not something you want to put in the microwave I bet!
I thought the nipple sheilds were good for sore nipples too b/c it gave me a barrier I just had a problem finding them in a larger size but yeah they worked great. Also my suggestion for nipple cream (I have used both) was the one from Madella brand Lanolin it went on much smoother. I actually found it painful to put on the Lansinoh brand b/c it was so thick. But if you can get past the pain of putting it on they both do a good job.
Stephanie, when you were using the medela breast shells did you find your nipples were drawn out more? As the actually silicon ‘nipple’ seems HUGE!
I’m 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby and had a awful time breastfeeding with no help with my son, not realising i had flat nipples.

@smleblanc1 yes they are all healed up! the occasionally get sore because I am not using the lanolin as much as I should :) but the aren’t cracked and bleeding anymore. I used to go cross eyed from the pain when he first latched on lol
Great video!! It is sooo great that you were able to stick with breastfeeding although you had issues!! I am 5 weeks pp and I am still having sore nipples and not really sure why….if I had to guess I would say baby doesn’t open wide enough when latching on. I was thinking about buying the soothies breast pads but i’m not sure. Are your nipples fully healed now?
@jadejussy thanks :D yeah its weird, nipple shields have a bad reputation with some people and I’m not sure why…I mean if it makes the difference between being able to breastfeed or not, then I totally say go for it.
@08jaydensmommy08 aww thanks :D
Great review! Ask the hospital nurses for Lansinoh Lanolin samples!! My samples lasted for the first month and I didn’t have to buy the expensive tube, which you know you’re not going to use all of that. I loved hydrogels for the first week, great for the cracks and scabs! I loved Lansinoh breast pads..but the softer ones that are shaped more like a square.
Nipple sheilds are fantastic. The midwives in our hospital wouldnt let me use them even though I had inverted nipples also But a nurse in neonatals (special care) really helped me and said to use the nipple sheilds. My son latched straight away and was fine. I still used them when I got home and right up until I stopped feeding at 3 weeks due to not making ‘good’ milk. Made my son sick and he lost alot of weight. You are looking great honey!
Thank sooo much I will be having our daughter in a few weeks I thank you for the info be Blessed!!
way to stick to through breast feeding even through all your problems!! : ) Some would have just given up. i’m proud of you momma! :D
This is such a great video !! I am sure this will help a ton of people with breastfeeding problems… I wish more people would do videos liket his !

@mel11789 thanks hun :)
@AdelMyBell sure! I actually had someone else request this same video as well, so I’ll be doing one on my channel in the next week sometime…feel free to check it out :)
@bigrd200 my pleasure! I agree about the pump in style (and Medla pumps in general) I never hear bad things about them…all good!
@Trinette75 sounds like you’re ready to go! The pump will help so much…it’s nice to let your partner feed them every now and then!
@holdendmb thanks! I totally almost gave up and I’m so glad I didn’t have to :)
great reviews!
Great video! I had the same issues and loved Medela nipple shields too. There’s not a lot of info for people who have this problem. Good for you for informing others!
