Q&A: What baby product do you really need?

baby product

What baby product do you really need?
I’ve noticed there are sooo many baby products out there: talc powder, baby oil, baby lotion, baby shampoo, baby wash, baby soap ect..

Do I really need all this? What are they for?

What did you use for you baby and what did you use it for?

I use a bar of natural baby soap and olive oil for moisturizer. There are no chemicals as there are in many commercially produced products.

We used a baby wash + shampoo in one and a baby lotion. We didn’t need powder or oil. Vaseline did come in handy for the bad diaper rashes, it works very well.

i use all the burts bees baby bee products. but yea you are right there are alot of things i dont use. i know i have a kit with lotion, soap, diaper rash cream, some powder, some oil, and some baby bath bead type things. i only use the lotion and soap and occasionally the diaper cream

We have a thing of baby powder that we never use (my son has never had a diaper rash before) and also a tube of Deitin diaper rash ointment (again, never used yet)…. Don’t haev any baby oil as I dont’ really see the point in it if you lotion them up.
I definitely use baby wash and lotion every single day. I have one soap for nighttime and the lotion that goes with it (it’s proven to help the baby sleep better) and I try to give him a bath everynight before bed but every now and tehn I cant and I will bathe him during the day with regular baby wash and then use regular lotion.

talc powder – stay away, do not get, its useles and can actually hurt your baby
baby oil, not really useful, we only used it for a little bit of cradle cap. I wouldn’t buy it beforehand, only buy it if you end up needing it.
baby lotion – do not use unless doc says so, its not necessary
baby wash/soap/shampoo – go for the johnsons baby wash stuff that works as soap and shampoo in one. It does work, but don’t go crazy with a huge bottle, you only use a small amount each time, so no need for lots.

Really for baby products the items that we have used are:
Johnson’s Baby Wash – as soap & shampoo
Baby Oil – only used a small amount to help remove some cradle cap
Desitin – helpful to have on hand whenever her little bum needs it
(after 3 months) Neutrogena Baby Sunblock – for any occassions that she’d be outside
(after 3 months) Vicks BabyRub – for times when she has a stuffy nose, a little rub on her chest to help her sleep at night

the only products we used was Desitin whenever she had the begining of a rash, it works great and the redness goes away in a day when you use it. we also used Aveeno baby lotion. for shampoo and body wash we used the johnsons ones. you could also use the aveeno shampoo and body wash, its a lot easier on baby skin especially if they develope eczema but it is a little more pricey.

we never used baby oil, only on her scalp a few times to get rid of the dry skin on her head. never used baby powder either.

other than that you will know with time what products you need, like the most, or prefer. some people put baby powder on their baby with every diaper change and others don’t, its just a matter of preferance with changes with person to person.

There are lots of products out there that are not necessary. All you need is baby wash, it does that job of all over body and shampoo as well, and a lotion. Talcum powder is not good because your baby can breathe it in and it can get in their eyes as well. Try to buy products that are fragrance free, and when you read the label, there are very few ingredients, and all are edible. Not kidding. That is the way you know they are completely safe. The only non-edible product I use on my baby is Desitin because it was the only thing that seemed to work.
