What baby product did you buy and end up never using?

It seems like there’s so much out there for babies and it’s hard to sort through what’s necessary and what’s not.

Stroller.

the bundle me….your suppose to put the baby in it then put the baby in the car seat… but i had my son jan3rd…it was freezing outside so i always put him in a snow suit and i couldnt put him in the bundle me because he would sweat.

also dont bother getting the diaper genie…you can still smell dirty diapers…just put the diaper in a stop & shop bag and put it in the garbage.

any car stick ons…i could not get the shade/mirror to stay on my back window…what i did was went to babys r us and bought this blue tint…it protects the baby from sun.

bottle warmer.

I used to warm it in the microwave when it was cold, now i just use room temperature.

Edit: I got thumbs down, why?, I meant warm the water.

Those diaper disposal things seem useless to me. Oh.. and wipe warmers. However, I have friends who love these things. I think it all depends on the individual.

My favorite things were the Bundle Me (no need to dress the baby in a snowsuit!- which can be dangerous b/c they are not supposed to be in a coat in a carseat), the Kick and Play and the swing. I thought the Bumbo was ok.

Yeah I never used the swaddle wraps that they sleep in, I just actually swaddled my baby until she was too big to be swaddled. I hardly ever use the stroller because it doesnt fit in my trunk, but I’ll use it later.

Well thats about it I think?

SOO much is unnecessary! I never used those stupid crib hanging things that light up or provide white noise, also never used the “sound spa” which is similar as well. you also dont need a million lotions and body washes.. just the one bottle of baby shampoo/body wash and one bottle of lotion is fine

make sure you do have a complete first aid kit though – I think that is important

also, some people might think the “boppy” is unnecessary, especially if you are only bottle feeding

oh yes, the bottle warmer is totally useless and also I just thought of the stupid wipes warmer – really dumb!

also you dont need a million of those chairs and play jungle mats, just one vibrating chair or portable swing, and one tummy mat and you should be fine!

I would highly recommend getting a jumperoo (dont use until about 4-5 months) it is great to just put them in to free your hands for a while and they jump around and love it!

you dont really need a bassinet either

Baby Swing. It worked ok for a tad but the one I had always engulfed my daughter and made her sit at an uncomfortable angle, no matter how many blankets I put it in to prop her up correctly.

a diaper genie
bumbo seat
baby shoes

I was given a few products at my baby shower that I’ve never used:

- baby bath tub
my son prefers if you fill the tub up completely and take a bath with him
in the baby bath, his body can not be submerged under the water so he gets cold
he hates being cold, screams until he’s warm again
so we used the baby bath tub twice before we started just taking baths with him
now that we do that he actually enjoys bathtime whereas he used to spend the whole time screaming

- pack’n'play
we have a condo- not huge but not small
if he needs to nap during the day, he either goes to his crib or a blanket on the floor
we never use the pack’n'play since he takes up so much room in our living room,
and it looks so tacky
but there really is no real need to put him in the pack’n'play when I am less than 10 feet away from him anyway

- bouncer
my son hated the bouncer, much prefered the swing
other babies hate the swing and prefer the bouncer
if you can barrow a friends to see which your baby prefers before buying one for yourself- do that

- swaddling blankets
my son has never enjoyed being swaddled
some babies need to be swaddled to sleep, rarely (like with my son) swaddling makes it harder for a baby to sleep, just depends on the baby
buy only one swaddle blanket ($10-15) until you know how your baby likes it

Our best friend when it came to our son: the boppy pillow
-my son loves to nap in his boppy during the day, with supervision
-it made tummy time easier and more enjoyable the first couple months
-I use it to position him for breastfeeding
-my husband uses it to position him on his lap so they can face eachother and play
-it helps him sit up without falling down

Besides the boppy, my son also enjoys his plastic links toys (easier than most other toys to grab and handle, great for developing motor skills)
And the baby carrier that straps to your body has been a life saver for us

The snowsuit…I had my daughter Dec. 30th and we had a snowsuit and a carseat cover…the carseat cover was so much more convienent that I never used the snowsuit…

100 different types of pacifiers…the hospital gave her a nuk brand paci and she has never taken anything but that brand so forget the cutsie paci’s

baby carrier—the one you wear…also never used the sling…

baby shoes…absolutely love shoes so I bought a ton of them..their cute but so impractical and they always seemed uncomfortable to me…

nursing shirts….don’t waste your money!! You learn very quickly that any shirt is a nursing shirt if maneuvered properly! LOL!

I didn’t use a stroller until recently, and I am only using one now since its summer. But once winter hits, I’m breaking out the baby carrier!

I bought a baby moniter and never used it because I never went far enough from my son to where I could hear him… I never wanted to go far enough to use it.

I hardly used my manuel breast pump, It was good for travel but the electic was better.

I hardly use the boppy, I found it got in the way of nursing and my son does not like to sit in it.

I bought him too many clothes and ended up not using a lot of them or only using them once.

My son hates his play gym.

Other than that I am a pretty smart shopper and use everything.

Things I use daily…

-Diaper gennie
-bouncy seat is a MUST HAVE
-baby carrier, my son does not like slings and the were uncomfortable so I bought a carrier and he LOVES it.

I bought a Lillebaby everywhere carrier and you can use it from birth to 43 lbs in 5 different positions. It has back and shoulder support so it is very comfortable.

Other than his crib, changing table and carseat I use those other things at least every day.

I never used the diaper disposal things because it was more trouble then it was worth. Also never used the bottle warmer because it took forever to work. I also never used those thermometers that your suppose to put in the bathtub with your baby to check the temp. When it came time to check the temp, I could never find the dang thing, so I always used my hand.

Definitely invest in a good stroller because your going to use it even when they get older. My son is now 2 and I’m still using the same stroller. Definitely get a playpen, because they’re vital to your sanity! Make sure you have a baby swing because they are a good babysitter when you can’t hold your baby. My mother in law said that buying a changing table was a waste of money because I would never use it, but she was very wrong. I have one of those changing tables that attaches to the wall and it was irreplaceable. Do invest in a good thermometer because you’ll use that even when he’s school aged. I have one of those ones that checks the temp just by rolling it over their forehead. Their about $40 at Wal-Mart but well worth it. I wish I had bought a good one when my son was young and it would have saved me so much heartache. When you kids sick the last thing in the world they want is someone sticking something in their mouth or under their arm.

Hope this helped!

I never used the Diaper Genie or the monitor because we can hear he everywhere in the house.

with the first baby – i had everything! and it actually sort of confused me, cuz most of it was presents and i felt obligated to try and use it all..ugh.

this time, we have a 3 week old baby girl (along with our 3 year old son) anyway, we have a bassinette next to the bed. we use diapers, store brand a&d ointment, borrowed baby clothes, my son’s baby blankets and we got a bunch more for gifts and (once) we used some aveeno baby lotion. i also have a baby bath tub and a we use the johnsons baby soap. oh and of course, we are using our sons infant carrier…other than that…everything has been stored away or given away. the baby’s brand new crib is even still in the box in th basement, mostly cuz if we put it up – it wouldn’t be used for months and months AND our 3 year old would just be jumping in and out of it (they are gonna be sharing a room)…

just be realistic about what you need.

good luck.

Diaper Genie.Used just a few weeks.Easier to put in a plastic bag and toss.I actually used the wipe warmer. My family still jokes about it but I couldn’t use cold wipes on him.Never used it for my second, had two in diapers at the same time.Had way to many blankets, used favorite ones over and over and never touched the others.Pack and Play was good for travel and used downstairs for naps but if you don’t travel or don’t have a big house don’t bother. Also good to toss toys in when not being used.

Breast Flow Bottles…I planned to breastfeed and thought i would use these bottles. I ended up using the bottles from the breast pump and my son did fine with them.

Milk lacting nipple from bottle is the baby product that we buy & end up never using

A “My Brest Friend’ nursing pilllow

Baby shoes

Baby Lotion [I just use Olive Oil for her dry patches]

I never used a snowsuit even though my son was born in january, he didn’t fit in his carseat with it. I also have a bumbo like seat that he barely used. The swing was good for the first two months but barely got any use after that. Blankets we didn’t use too many of, we actually only really used them for while holding him and taking him out to the car. Didn’t use bumpers in the crib. Had way too many baby clothes. A few sleep and plays in each size and maybe one or two cute outfits are all you really need. Newborn sized clothes were useless, they fit for a week. The diaper pails are overrated, I had a diaper genie but got rid of it once the refills started to cost over $6 even at target, replaced it with the diaper champ which is now in the bathroom because it smells terrible. I didn’t use a bottle warmer much but I am also breastfeeding, I warm up frozen milk in a pan, my husband uses the warmer because it is harder to overheat the milk in that, it takes longer though.

Things I couldn’t live without would be the co-sleeper next to the bed, I loved being able to roll over, pull my son into the bed and feed him without even having to sit up (I guess it doesn’t work quite the same if you aren’t breastfeeding though, but it is still nice to have them close). The pack-n-play, it’s good for going away, or to grandmas for the day, and now we have our son sleeping in so he can stay in our room a little longer and because every time he is in his crib he bumps his head. Sleep sacks are the best invention ever, especially if it is colder in your house at night because you can put them over a sleep and play or gown, and if it isn’t then you can just put that on and its easier for late night diaper changes. I haven’t seen any long sleeved ones lately, but they should have them again closer to winter. I use the changing table all the time, if you have baby sleeping in your room then you may also want the changing table in your room. I ended up being glad I had a breast pump before my son was born, he had latch issues and got a little dehydrated, he also didn’t have any nipple confusion after using breastflow bottles…actually he had an easier time latching on after using them.

I’ve gone through a few baby carriers and strollers already, I liked my ring sling till my son got to be about 15lbs, then my arm started falling asleep when I put him in it, it was also only good for short periods of time before my back started to hurt. I had a sleepy baby wrap which is the same as the moby wrap and never used it because I felt like my son would fall out of it. I also had an infantino sling which I never used because I didn’t like the way my sons neck was bent when I put him in it. I just got a baby bjorn carrier and wish I had gotten it sooner, it is comfortable even with my 17lbs baby. I also have a stroller that the carseat fits into, a lightweight stroller and two umbrella strollers. Make sure you look at how much space your folded stroller takes up and how much space is in your car, if you don’t have alot of room then you might want to look at the lightweight ones, I have a combi that has a strap on the back that you can carry it with and prefer it to the britax stroller that cost twice as much.

Baby washcloths
Baby Oil
Pacifiers (he would never use them)

I (surprisingly) never used the breast pump I bought. It was an Avent one and it was quite expensive and I did end up BFing for 10 months, but I just never used the pump. I wasn’t shy or ashamed about BFing in public or in compay because I would do it discreetly, I just never had the need for it.

But I might give it a try this time around.

lol, youll never guess…
My mother brought home a high chair for when my little sister would be born. Turns out she couldn’t put the little darlin down and she sure as hell didn’t want to be strapped into that contraption… so she sat on my mothers lap to eat! lmao!

bumbo seat it is better to just use a high chair
wipe warmer is useless
baby bath tub
cute clothes that are really not comfortable make sure it something easy to change baby diapers
baby jumper.diaper genie

if you want a bottle warmer i used the avent one it works for almost any bottle and it takes less than one minute to warm

we broght a baby tub, but once my daughter was old enough to be bathed in it she hated it, so it got used like once now it coloects dust.
