Contrary to what people may be telling you. Don’t tell as many people as possible. That’s the dumbest thing you can do before you have legal protection for the product. Form a business, create a prototype, and file for a patent if you want. Then start shopping it around to manufacturers and distributors. You may actually not want to file a patent because once you do, your product/idea and the detailed specifications of it can be viewed by anyone. Anyone in the US can view patent applications and they usually give away a LOT of details about the product. It’s somewhat better if you control everything and don’t let anything out of the bag.
